What is a Lumen?

measuring lumens for light bulbs for modern lighting

We list the lumens for all of our modern pendant lighting light bulbs on our website, but what is a lumen exactly?

The lumens definition is "a unit of luminous flux in the International System of Units, that is equal to the amount of light given out through a solid angle by a source of one candela intensity radiating equally in all directions."  Still confused? In short, lumens means brightness.

There is often a confusion between watts and lumens. Watts measure energy use, not light output. With new energy efficient LED technology, we can no longer rely upon wattage to indicate how bright a bulb is. Watt and lumen units represent different quantities, so you can't convert watts to lumens.
