Constellation Opens This Weekend!

At the beginning of this year, you may recall Team Niche made a series of small sapphire, glass orbs for local artist, Melissa McGill. What once was this...

is now this:

And beginning THIS Sunday, June 28th, will finally be this:

Constellation is finally making its debut over the ruins of historic Bannerman Castle on an island in the Hudson River this weekend! This large-scale public art installation features LED lights encased in specially made Niche glass orbs, suspended on tall poles at different heights, creating the illusion of a starry pattern in the night sky. The installation is viewable from both east and west sides of the Hudson River, and will be every night from 7:30 - 9:30pm through Summer 2017.

Accessible by both land and water, Melissa invites you to take part in this exciting project. Take a scenic boat tour made possible by the Bannerman Castle Trust’s Estuary Steward or get down and dirty with a kayak tour from the Storm King Adventure Tours. Don't want to get seasick? Don't worry! From land on the east side of the Hudson River, there is a viewing area near the Breakneck train stop between Beacon and Cold Spring, a short walk off of State Route 9D. Just follow the posted Constellation signs! On the west side of the Hudson, gaze at Constellation from the Kowawese Unique Area at Plum Point, just south of New Windsor. Refer to the map below and click here to plan your visit!

Especially for the opening night on Sunday, June 28th, there will be a free shuttle bus sponsored by BeaconArts running between the Beacon waterfront and the Breakneck viewing area. The shuttle will pick-up in 25 minute intervals between 7:15-8:30 and then stay at the viewing area until dark and return to the Beacon waterfront around 9:45. Additionally, there will be a free shuttle bus running from the Cold Spring train station to the Breakneck viewing area courtesy of Putnam Tourism. This shuttle will run between 7:15-8:30 and return to the Cold Spring train station at 9:30. Get it on the action and be one of the first to see Constellation as the sun sets over the Hudson!

Constellation is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Donations to the project are ongoing and can be made here.
