Our Facebook Fan Page is now over 20000 strong!!!
Last year we began to look at Facebook as a means of reaching out to you all, specifically when we couldn’t interact with you directly as we like to do most often. Earlier this week we crossed the 20,000 Facebook fan threshold into super stardom, but more importantly, toward a deeper community. Having you all with us is starting to feel like we’re embedded within a city of our own filled with people who all think alike about lighting and its importance in the world of design, architecture and art.
Thank you all for hopping aboard the train on this journey that we’ve chosen to embark on. We honestly couldn’t do it without you, foremost. Please, share your thoughts and remarks with us here or on Facebook. And stay tuned for an eventful 2012. We love you all!

Modern Terra Pendants installed over a kitchen island in Dallas, Texas
Recently, Niche Modern’s Terra Pendant lights were incorporated into a Henrybuilt kitchen project, for a private home owner in Texas, by interior designer Janet Gridley. We are big fans of the Henrybuilt aesthetic which emphasizes thoughtful, modern design with exquisite materials made the good old fashioned way: by hand!
We were happy to learn that this particular project is a LEED (green building certification program) targeted construction which is especially meaningful to all of us here at Niche Modern who firmly believe that incandescent bulbs can and should be considered eco-friendly when compared to the glaring and often untold hazards of CFL’s (compact fluorescent lighting).
You can read more about the politics behind incandescent vs CFL bulbs here: click here.
Congress is scheduled to vote on the repeal of the bulb ban placed in 2007, as part of the Energy Independence and Security Act, that would phase out many incandescents from the marketplace by 2012. While Niche Modern’s incandescent bulbs fall in the “specialty” category and are therefore protected from such laws, this is nonetheless an issue close to our hearts as we feel very strongly that consumers should be given much more honest and transparent information from the bulb manufacturers and the media at large before making a choice when it comes to bulbs. And of course the operative word here is: CHOICE.
Expo Nova, founded in the early 60s is one of the leading companies in Norway dealing with design brands, such as B&B Italia, Zanotta, Cappellini, and Flos. Located in Oslo, they recently supplied architectural and interior design firm Romlab with everything they needed to redecorate the lounge/meeting areas on the ground floor of Oslo logistics company, Wallenius Willhelmsen. The images below include the installed Pack 9 Modern Chandelier, suspended above a table at Wallenius. We can’t get enough of seeing the Pack 9 in full bloom! SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL!

Architect and Interior Designer, Kathy Hancox, conceived this home for a couple in Tucson, Arizona. She is responsible for the entire design, inside and out. The couple’s love of entertaining friends was taken into consideration when designing the layout of the home. Hancox used the landscape surrounding as an excuse to situate the main living spaces on the second floor instead of the first, maximizing the view of the outdoors. We suspect that our Crimson Solitaire Pendants were selected for their deeply warm hue; fitting amidst a desert landscape.
