Edison and The Filament Bulb

“Hell there are no rules…. we’re trying to accomplish something!”

Enter Edison, no Swan…

Turns out Edison isn’t the guy. Joseph Swan was the actual inventor behind the filament bulb. Edison modified it to make it more efficient and reliable… that still makes him a smart guy.

An interesting perspective, regarding Swanhttp://www.guardian.co.uk/science/blog/2011/feb/11/thomas-edison-google-doodle

In Memory of Tobias Wong

1974 – 2010

A few years back, I was honored to be a part of a dynamic group of young, emerging designers in a creative campaign that revolved around the Chivas Regal 18 year vintage scotch whiskey. Gathered together by the editorial team at Wallpaper Magazine were designers Alma Allen and Lawson-Fenning, Tyler Hays, Joe Doucet, myself, and the late, Tobias Wong. All of the offerings were bespoke, made specifically for the campaign: hand-carved sculptures, a companion table, a black walnut flashlight, an incredible-looking, and functioning(!), black walnut speaker, and four glass vessels that nested one inside the other.

While I didn’t have the opportunity to meet Tobias during the photo shoot, which took place at BDDW in lower Manhattan, I was deeply impressed with his work and sense of style.
At the time, I considered it an honor to be cast alongside talent like his.
In memoriam, hats off to Tobias. Your wit and talent will be missed.
