Track Systems FAQ

If your question is not listed below or in any of the other categories, please try the SEARCH box at the top of the site with a few keywords relating to your question and most likely you can find something similar in the search results.

Can I use the lights on a track system?

Yes, but the cost of customizing a cord set with a track connector is not included in our pricing.

We would simply need to know the name of the track system and the length of the drop you require and we would have the track connectors customized accordingly. This process can take roughly 2 weeks.

What kind of track systems are compatible?

The track systems we can work with are:
• Halo (most common)
• Juno
• Lightolier

HALO and JUNO are very similar type connectors except that Halo connectors have 3 metal pins and Juno have 2 metal pins.

Your track system may be HALO or JUNO compatible but actually be manufactured by another vendor.

How much do track connectors cost?

Enabling your Niche Modern light to work with a track system requires that each cord set be custom wired.

Cost will vary depending on which track system you need.
Please call us for exact pricing information and we would be happy to give you an estimate.

Does Niche supply the track system?

Niche Modern only supplies the customized cord set with track connector.

We do not supply the actual track itself. You will need to source that through your local lighting store, electrical supplier, or contractor.

Light Bulbs FAQ

If your question is not listed below or in any of the other categories, please try the SEARCH box at the top of the site with a few keywords relating to your question and most likely you can find something similar in the search results.

What kind of bulbs are used?

All of the bulbs for the Silica Series use specialty incandescent bulbs.

These are the same format as a normal bulb socket, but the shape of the bulbs are unique and rather than being a frosted bulb, the glass is clear so that the filaments are visible.

The bulbs we use with our fixtures play a huge role in the design and integrity of each piece. They range in wattage and longevity.

We stock the bulbs for easy re-order and each of our lights is sold with a bulb included.

How many watts are the bulbs?

The bulbs vary in wattage depending on the design.

The following fixtures use 75W bulbs:
Pharos
Pod
Stamen
Bell Jar
Bella

The Solitaire uses a 40W Edison bulb.

The Terra uses a total of four 15W bulbs that amount to 60W.

The Aurora uses either a 20W or a 40W bulb.

Where do I get replacement bulbs?

Niche Modern sells replacement bulbs as a courtesy to our customers. Please email us which bulb you need to replace.

We do not currently sell bulbs separately to non-customers. Please have your original order # or the name under which your order was placed when requesting replacement bulbs.

Most of the bulbs can be sourced through larger bulb suppliers, although you may pay a premium for smaller quantities, so be sure to check with us first.

How long do the bulbs last?

Most of the bulbs are rated between 2000 – 3000 hours (your mileage may vary).

While some of the bulbs are quite durable and resilient, the tubular filament bulbs are fragile and do need to be handled with care.

See this article on the latest about the false economy of Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (CFL).

General Questions

If your question is not listed below or in any of the other categories, please try the SEARCH box at the top of the site with a few keywords relating to your question and most likely you can find something similar in the search results.

Where are your lights made?

Most of our line is hand blown in the state of New York with extreme attention to detail and quality standards. No two fixtures are the same because they’re individually crafted. There will generally be some slight variation in color, shape and size between our pendants, though we aim for consistency and accuracy with all orders.

Do you stock the light fixtures?

We have certain shapes and colors on hand at different times depending on our blowing schedule.

You can always contact us to confirm lead time. If an item is not in stock, general lead time is 4-6 weeks. Larger orders can take longer.

Please feel free to call us TOLL FREE at 866.299.7105 for scheduling your order and we can generally commit to a delivery timeframe if your project dictates.

Do you work directly with the trade?

Yes. We are happy to extend our trade discount and supply quotes/sales orders if you contact us directly with a request.

We do offer deeper discounts for large quantity orders.

Do you accept custom orders?

We are happy to work with you on custom ideas, though we are limited to diameters of approximately 14” max on any glass piece.

Custom orders are subject to additional costs and longer lead times. We encourage you to contact us with your ideas; it’s an exciting aspect of what we are able to do and we enjoy the process of collaborating.

For larger orders, we generally can use custom colors, although if the color you are seeking is not one of our standard colors, there may be a prototyping fee to establish the correct density of color before proceeding with the order in general.

Can I choose a custom color?

For larger orders, we generally can use custom colors, although if the color you are seeking is not one of our standard colors, there may be a prototyping fee to establish the correct density of color before proceeding with the order in general.

If you are interested in one of our standard colors but don’t see an image in the shape you are interested in, we can generally blow this to order.

Are the lights UL Listed?

Each of our pendants is supplied with electrical components which have been fabricated in accordance with UL regulations.

*None of our lights are UL Listed for OUTDOOR or DAMP LOCATION use – though we are able to supply the glass shades separately for these installations.

How do I clean the glass lights?

We recommend cleaning the glass light with normal glass cleaner and a very soft cloth.

Electrical Requirements FAQ

If your question is not listed below or in any of the other categories, please try the SEARCH box at the top of the site with a few keywords relating to your question and most likely you can find something similar in the search results.

Can I use a dimmer?

Yes, in fact we recommend using a dimmer so that you have much more control over the level of lighting in your environment.

A dimmer will greatly enhance the beauty of your Niche Modern light fixture by allowing you to “dial down” the light level to achieve the right mood.

What voltage do the lights accept?

Niche Modern lights accept 110 – 120 voltage, the standard electrical voltage supplied in the United States.

This is also known as Line Voltage.

We do not currently offer any Low Voltage (12v) fixtures although we are working on producing some now.

Can I install the lights myself?

While installing a Niche Modern light requires only basic electrical knowledge and is quite easy, we always strongly advise that a qualified electrician familiar with local regulations and electrical codes install the light(s).

Cord Sets FAQ

If your question is not listed below or in any of the other categories, please try the SEARCH box at the top of the site with a few keywords relating to your question and most likely you can find something similar in the search results.

Are the lights sold with cord sets?

Yes. Each of our pendants comes with all the necessary hardware for installation: cord set, ceiling canopy and bulb. We always strongly advise that a qualified electrician familiar with local regulations and electrical codes install the light(s).

Our standard cord length is 4’. The cords can be cut on site and we can customize longer lengths as well, though this customization is an additional charge and can add to the lead time for a fixture.

What is a cord set?

The cord set is composed of the electrical socket and electrical cable.

The electrical socket securely holds the glass fixture and is also where the bulb is screwed into.

At the ceiling, the cord will attach to either a ceiling canopy or a track connector. Our standard cord sets are not wired for track connectors. Track connectors are available for an additional charge. (Please see the FAQ section on TRACKS)

How long is the cord set?

Our standard cord set comes in 4 foot length. The cord can be cut to any length shorter than 4 feet on the job site.

Longer cord sets are available by custom order. If the 4′ cord set is not long enough for your installation, usually an 8′ cord set will suffice.

Longer cord sets are available as accessory items.

What color is the cord set?

Our standard cord sets are black. We find black to be the least obtrusive color as it blends into the background.

What length of cord set do I need?

This varies depending on several factors:

* Your Ceiling Height
* Will the fixture hang over a table or bar?

Measure from the top of the ceiling to the bottom of where you would like the glass to stop, and then subtract the height of the actual glass itself (fixture dimensions are listed on each Product page or in the PDF spec sheets).
The remaining value is the length of the cord you will need.

If this number is 48″ or less, then the standard cord set will work.
If this number is greater than 48″ then you will need a custom cord set.

Please call or email us with this information. The length doesn’t have to be an exact measurement as you can always trim the cord on site during installation.
Just make sure to order the cord longer than you will need it.

Ceiling Canopies FAQ

If your question is not listed below or in any of the other categories, please try the SEARCH box at the top of the site with a few keywords relating to your question and most likely you can find something similar in the search results.

What is a canopy?

A ceiling canopy is a round metal plate that covers the junction box in the ceiling.

What is a junction box?

The junction box, or electrical box, is where the electrical wires originate from. The junction box is where you will connect the wires to the cordset, and also where the ceiling canopy will attach to to support the light.
