We had such a blast this week when my daughter’s 2nd grade class came to visit the glass studio at Niche Modern! We put cones around the work station as a safety precaution but the kids were so completely spell bound as they watched Adam and the team work with the glass that they were literally frozen in place. One of the teachers commented about how beautiful our team is to watch because they move around each other as they work in a kind of complicated, wordless dance that is so graceful it seems choreographed. One of the 8 year old girls was especially excited to meet Annie and see living proof of what she called: “an awesome girl glass blower!” We were reminded of how special our Niche Modern crew is and how inspiring their teamwork and collective skills are. Who knows: maybe a seed was sown and a future glass blower will emerge from this field trip one day!

Last week we hit a breathtaking milestone here at Niche Modern when our analytics report showed that 132 countries visited our site! When we started selling our fixtures in 2005 we used to pack them in our living room and bake cookies for our FedEx driver who endured double parking, two sets of elevators and sometimes even held a screaming baby while I refilled the tape gun! We were a family affair in every sense of the word! A lot of growth has happened since those early days, in both family and company (which are one in the same here) but still, it’s amazing to think that from our living room to living rooms across the world our work is touching the lives of other people and cultures on a global level… Goosebumps!

Olive and Ivy is a fantastic restaurant in Scottsdale Arizona featuring 75 Amber and Crimson Niche Modern Pharos pendants at staggered lengths throughout the main dining room. This was a job we did back in 2006 but we weren’t able to get there in person until this winter. The food is sublime! If you ever find yourself in Scottsdale and have time for lunch, the apple caponata bruschetta is especially amazing. I know it’s a pretty sweet benefit to my life at Niche Modern that I get to travel the world and drop in on these inspiring establishments displaying our lighting but if I don’t stop eating in this decadent style I’m never gonna be ready for bikini season!

We’re back from London and settling into the hardest part of winter in New York: the very end! So many feasts for the eyes as well as the belly in London. Some other highlights, after our lovely lunch at Pollen Street Social, included a dinner at Jamie Oliver’s restaurant Fifteen where our Niche Modern Turrets are strung across the back wall with flare and the stunning Harry’s of London on scenic, posh South Audley Street in Mayfair where a Niche Modern Sola 36 with Gray Solitaire glass is prominently displayed. It was a huge treat for us to see our work in person in these creative, breathtaking environments.

We’re visiting London this week and the rumors are true: the food is amazing all around. We dug in at Pollen Street Social yesterday and were completely enchanted by the warm, minimal interior where 25 (!!) Clear Niche Modern Solitaires are featured in the dining room. Both the service and the meal were absolutely incredible as well. I had a dish with tender Jerusalem artichokes, spiced aubergine and roasted ceps. I won’t even get into dessert for fear of drooling on my laptop…We were truly honored to see our work at this magnificent restaurant. I took a quick, inconspicuous pic with my cell; sorry for the quality!

Since we launched our chandelier line several years ago we haven’t had the opportunity to see too many pictures of installations in private homes. So we were really excited and grateful when Matthew, one of our customers, sent this picture of the Spark Chandelier in his living room. We think it looks absolutely fantastic and we’re honored to share it!
